SRT Pitch Rigging

The ease and safety of descending vertical caves relies totally on the person doing the rigging as the rope is the sole pathway up and down the pitches. When a pitch is rigged it is not just for the rigger but for the rest of the team, so it is extremely important to provide a safe and efficient hang for the rope. The pitch must be rigged fluently, safely and free from rub points etc. OR NOT AT ALL! and there can be no room for mistakes. SRT rigging is an art and a science combined which is best learnt from fully qualified, experienced, knowledgeable and professional instructors. Nigel Atkins, DCA training Officer 1992.

This course is designed for cavers who are already proficient in modern SRT,  passing re-belays and deviations etc. wishing to progress to independent vertical caving trips. When a pitch is rigged it is not just for the rigger but for the rest of the team, so there can be no room for mistakes. We will look at pitch rigging with a view of safety, fluency, selecting good anchor points and rigging ropes free from rub points etc.
